Isle of Wight Academy’s curriculum is college preparatory. To graduate, students must earn a minimum of 22 or 24 credits to receive their General Studies or Advanced Studies Diploma. Extracurricular activities include multiple selections in the visual and performing arts; JJV, JV and Varsity sports; special interest clubs; and opportunities for developing leadership skills through organizations such as student government, community service, and school publications.

Honors
- All A’s – Headmaster’s List
- All A’s & B’s – Honor Roll
- Typically, 40% of students earn Honor
- Roll or higher each quarter
Class Rank
Isle of Wight Academy computes class rank using the weighted and unweighted courses a student takes from his or her ninth grade year to his or her senior year. A student must be a full-time IWA student for two full semesters before he or she is given a class rank. Transfer grades are not calculated in a student’s GPA.
Advanced Placement Courses
- AP Government and Politics (12th grade) and AP English Literature (12th grade).
- These courses are weighted in figuring a student’s GPA, on the following scale: A – 5.0 , B – 4.0, C – 3.0, D – 2.0, F – 0.0.
- If a student desires to take an AP test that is not offered as a class, it may be scheduled at the beginning of the year with the Guidance Counselor.
Dual Credit Courses
Isle of Wight Academy is pleased and proud to partner with Paul D. Camp Community College and Richard Bland College in order to provide dual credit courses to its students. These classes allow students to earn both their high school and college credits at one time.
Taught by certified community college instructors as an introductory college course, IWA offers the following dual credit courses at present:
- US History (6 credits)
- Spanish IV (8 credits)
- English (6 credits)
- French IV ( 8 credits)
- Economics (6 credits)
- Statistics/Linear Algebra (6 credits)
College Placement
Isle of Wight Academy students are traditionally accepted into the college of their choice, with many attending some of the finest institutions across the country.
Some of the recent institutions attended by IWA graduates include the College of William and Mary, the University of Virginia, Virginia Tech, James Madison University, Old Dominion University, the University of Mary Washington, Longwood University, University of Delaware, North Carolina State University, Christopher Newport University, Bridgewater College, Belmont University, and many, many others. Each year, IWA students are awarded scholarships, with many students attending the institution of his or her choice on a full scholarship.
