Isle of Wight Academy PTO
To all returning families, welcome back to IWA. To any new families, welcome to the IWA family. The PTO board is looking forward to working with you this year. The board is made up of the following individuals: President, Susan Saunders; Vice-President, Susan Carroll; Secretary, Evie Upton and Treasurer, Jennifer Cuadro.
So what does the PTO do for IWA? The PTO is a liaison between IWA and their families. We raise funds for teacher requests, college scholarships, department needs, to name a few. We have quarterly PTO meetings which everyone is invited to attend. We have two luncheons to honor the gifted teachers and administration which give so much to our students. We are the lead for the long-standing tradition of the Harvest Festival. We sponsor two skate nights for students in Kindergarten – 7th grade. We provide lunches for the students to purchase on Field Day. These are a sample of the important responsibilities of the PTO.
So what do we have in store for 2017/2018? We are going to try something new and exciting this year! In lieu of a number of fundraisers that have been tried in the past, we are planning two large fundraisers and we are asking for your commitment in advance. As mentioned above, the Harvest Festival will be Saturday, October 14th. We established a Harvest Festival Committee to expound on activities which will encourage our middle school and high school students to participate. The Harvest Festival is truly a family event and we encourage everyone to come enjoy the festivities. This will be our fall fundraiser. The majority of these proceeds are used to fund the annual teacher requests.
Our spring fundraiser will be Boosterthon. This is a new program for IWA but we are extremely excited. The program kicks off with a pep rally for the school on March 19th. There will be Six Character Trait Days from March 20th – March 27th with the Boosterthon Fun Run and Color Run Event on March 28th. These profits will be used for classroom needs, teacher luncheons, scholarships, music and art department requests, to name a few. Please put October 14th and March 28th on your calendar as we need family attendance and support.
Santa’s Corner will be November 27th – December 1st. Children are able to purchase Christmas gifts for their family and friends. Gifts are relatively inexpensive and are wrapped and taken to each classroom.
Our Back to School Skate Night for grades K – 7 is scheduled for September 21st.
There will be other events planned during the school year for which families will get ample notice. If you are interested in assisting with any PTO events, please sign and return the volunteer form.
PTO dues are a $5 donation for EACH student. $3 will be used for the Boosterthon IWA t-shirts so every student has a shirt to wear for the Fun Run (grades PreK – 5) or Color Run (grades 6 – 12). The other $2 will be used to fund a scholarship account.
As always, we look forward to working with our families and please do not hesitate to contact one of us should you have questions or suggestions.
